Foreign Correspondent at the New York Times

Lara Jakes is a foreign correspondent at The New York Times, focused on conflict diplomacy and weapons in Ukraine and the Middle East. She has reported and edited from more than 70 countries over the last three decades, covered active combat in Afghanistan, and served as a war correspondent in Iraq for three years, including one as Baghdad bureau chief for The Associated Press. For the vast majority of her career, she worked in Washington, covering diplomacy, counterterrorism, rule of law and defence policy, including as a State Department and Pentagon correspondent.
